SPEAKING IN TONGUES

Given that you said, 'this issue needs revisiting', I take it that you have been part of a discussion on the issue in the past.  I want you to know that several books have been written on this topic and as such the answer you seek is not something you can find out so easily in this medium.  If it really bugs your life as you indicated, I will like to suggest that you contact me (Lay-Pastor).  My email address is bhsdacpastors@aol.com

I'll be more than happy to discuss with you.

RE speaking in tongues
Speaking in tongues as the bible mentions is for personal development as Apostle Paul said. I do not say Amen to the utterance of one supposedly speaking in tongues. In Nigeria there are 250 dialects and I consider someone who is not from a dialect but spiritually communicates to speak in tongues. It is subject to the fact that it can be interpreted. It is also a gift of the Holy Spirit and this means it is a spiritual gift. Further, when I listen to gospel music in languages I do not understand but the tune is synonymous to a hymn I know I consider it as tongue ministry.
Essentially, the attributes of speaking in tongues require 1. Interpretation, 2,. it is a known language by someone other than those who are speaking it, 3. It is a spiritual revelation that will win souls. The 3rd part is the foundational element and if this is not occuring then the gift is wasted and it does not fullfil the desires of the kingdom.
We must make no mistake, tongue is personal, it has spiritual purpose that can be identified and it must win souls. Thank you and God bless you.

I wish everybody would be humble enough to go beyond four walls of the church and lay low before God. this will go a long way in knowing the truth about so many controversial issues in the church. Speaking in tongues is actually biblical.problem lies with the practice or the act of speaking in tongues in today's christian world. nevertheless, this does not negate the fact/truth that speaking in tongues is biblical.
traditions, customs, ways and manners in the church have sent some of us into the elusive world of confusion. it will only take a personal relationship with God, personal deligent search for the truth (of course, with fasting and prayer ), and consciuous disentanglement from carnal believes. On the day of Judgement, God will not ask you about your church, doctrines, etc; rather He will pose a question to you, 'what have you done with the truth?'

SPEAKING IN TONGUES
Thank God for His goodness and the Spiritual giftS He bestowed on the church. First of all I want to say that there are diversities or different types of tongues as stated in the bible (1 Cor 12 & 14). So we cannot limit tongues speaking to the one spoken on the day of pentecost as most of us believed. The tongue spoken there is only one type of tongue. Certain type of tongue, especially the one for the edification of the church do require an interpretation, but it isn't always. The bible says in (1 Cor 14:2) "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries". Note the word UNKNOWN used in this scriptures. Care must be taken that we don't judge things that we don't understand from a carnal mind but let the spirit of God who has been promised to guide us into all truths be our guide. Though when a tongue is used for personal edication, having someone with the gift of interpretation could be a blessing also. But the problem is, how many of us desire the gift of interpretation? What are we interpreting when the actaul gift is forbidden in our chruches. Remember what Paul said at the end of his teaching on this topic 1 Cor 14:39 "Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues". Our attitude towards this particular gift has hndered us from enjoying the full blessing of this particular gift. It is a shame to see how the church would rather condone or tolerate an adulterous pastor by transfering him to another parish to continue his bad behaviour and yet quick to ostracised or even dis-fellowshiop a member who speaks in tongue. Talking about the gift of interpretation of tongues, I had an experience couple of weeks ago in a fellowship of believers where I was asked to minister. As I began to praise God during the praise worship, the holy spirit took over my mind and thoughts and I began to speak in tongues. My eyes were closed but I sensed someone moving close to me. Then he began to prophesy and interpret what I was saying. When he started speaking I wanted to stop thinking I should allow him to speak but he held my mind and signalled to me to continue. It was my first experience since I received this gift that someone actually interpreted what I said. My spirit also testified to everything he said. Everyone in the gathering was blessed and lifted. It was an awesome experience. God is real so is His word. IT IS ONLY THE SPIRIT OF GOD THAT CAN GUIDE US INTO ALL TRUTH NOT THE CARNAL MIND. God's ways are not our ways, and Spiritual things are spiritually discerned. STAY EMPOWERED.

speaking intongues
May i refer us all to the article written by Jan Pausel in the Adventist World Magazine ( MArch 2010 ) http://www.adventistworld.org/article.php?id=724, titled " Is the Face of Adventism Changing?". Just take your time and read every sentence carefully. from age to age God will continually shine light into the truth; even the truth that had in the past eluded us. recently i read 1 Cor 14 again and I just could'nt but wonder how satan has successfully pull a veil to cover our spiritual minds. may i declare authoritatively that it is an insult and vexation against the HOLY SPIRIT for any born again XIAN to deny the gift of speaking in tongues or forbid one to speak with tongues. I covet the the gifts of tongues, interpretation, healing and wonders and i deligently (by God's grace) seek after them. Listen to the words of Ellen White: “We cannot be accepted or honored of God in rendering the same service, or doing the same works, that our fathers did. In order to be accepted and blessed of God as they were, we must imitate their faithfulness and zeal,—improve our light as they improved theirs,—and do as they would have done had they lived in our day. We must walk in the light which shines upon us, otherwise that light will become darkness”
(Testimonies for the Church, vol. 1, p. 262). Jan Paulsen asked 'How do we “walk in the light which shines upon us”? How do we bring the ageless truths of yesterday with us into the realities of today? He continued by saying, it requires a mind-set that doesn’t fear change simply because it is change. It requires an ability to discern that which is transcendent—those unchanging values and truths that allow us to negotiate safely through a world of change. May the Spirit of God guide us into all truth. be Holy Ghost filled. your humble servant K. P
